SCENIC ART
I have a keen interest in scenic painting and set dressing and over the past few years have lucky enough to have the opportunity to work on a number of projects and events both in the UK and Australia. I hope to find more work in this field in the future to help develop and broaden my creative skill set.
BOOMTOWN
2018 WINCHESTER
Scenic Painting & Signwriting
At Boomtown in 2018 I was working in the Metropolis district that was new that year and the work mainly involved repainting the old Chinatown sets to better fit with the new Metropolis theme. It was very exciting work as the transformation from the old set from the previous year was so dramatic and the overall look of the area so entirely different.
BESTIVAL &
CAMP BESTIVAL
2018 LULWORTH
Set Dressing
I worked at both Bestival and Camp Bestival in 2018, this was the year that they decided to do both festivals back to back so it involved a lot of dressing and then rearranging and redressing the following week after Camp finished and before Bestival began. Much of the work involved dressing tents and bar areas, as well as hanging props and flags all over the site.
THE PLEASURE GARDEN
2017 MELBOURNE
Scenic Painting
I worked on the mainstage painting for The Pleasure Garden, much of the work was aging and distressing the painting that had been done the previous year. The set designer started with a very fresh look in 2016 (the festival’s first year) and intended to progressively create a more derelict and overgrown look each year over a three year period before starting afresh again with an entirely new set every fourth year. This was a much small festival than any I had previously worked on and I really relished the opportunity to work with such a small and close knit team.
GOD OF SLEEP
2017 MELBOURNE
Production Design
I worked as a Production Designer on a short film with a group of film students whilst I was living in Melbourne. I sourced a lot of the props and wardrobe and dressed the set during the shoot. The director gave me a lot of creative freedom with this once we had discussed the kind of overall look and feel that he wanted to achieve.
BOOMTOWN
2016
BRISTOL & WINCHESTER
Scenic Painting
The first year I worked at Boomtown I was working in one of their warehouses in Bristol painting the Sector 6 stage as well as onsite in DSTRKT 5 in the days leading up to opening. The painting mainly consisted of creating rust and aged wood effects as well as dirty down-ing and adding final touch ups to the constructed sets on site.
PUNCHDRUNK
2016 LONDON
Scenic Painting &
Set Dressing
At Punchdrunk I did a mix of scenic painting and set dressing at their permanent set based in London known as The Village. The painting work was mainly aging wood work, doors and door frames and the set dressing involved adding final touches to rooms with additional furniture and props. I enjoyed this experience a lot as I liked the depth of detail that they put in to the work to make it feel as realistic as possible.
